Beauty Salons, What happens if a salon is negligent?

2020 was the year of self care, Mainly because the chance to visit the salon for treatments such as facials, new nails, eyelash treatments or even a haircut was slim to none, but as the country begins to open up again in 2021, a lot of women, and men, are looking at hitting their local beauty salon for some well deserved treatments as a much needed pick-me-up. But where would you go for treatments if you didn’t have any prior knowledge of salons to visit in your area? Do you visit the salon on the high street you have seen that is always busy? That salon you have seen advertised on Instagram? Or do you perhaps visit that “friend of a friend” who does treatments in her own home? Any of these places could be fantastic and you could come out feeling a million dollars, but what if you don’t? What if something goes wrong? What if you get injured?

Common injuries in beauty salons can include,

  • Cuts or burns
  • Scarring
  • Chemical burns
  • Allergic reactions

Public liability insurance is an important part of any salon owners and customers peace of mind, but it is not an insurance required by law. So how can you make sure that a salon you have chosen to visit and entrust with your health, safety and your looks are insured if something goes terribly wrong?

Many salons that have taken out public liability insurance are proud of this fact and may display these certificates on the wall as another way to show that they care about you as a customer and that your well-being is important to them, but if you don’t see any certificates on display, ASK. Never feel as if you are being unreasonable to ask any questions of your beauty therapist regarding insurance or anything else. You can ask if they are qualified to carry out the beauty treatment you have requested. Any beauty therapist who is qualified will be happy to talk through their qualifications with you and put you at ease. If you ask and the therapist or salon avoids the questions or is hazy with any details regarding qualifications or Public Liability insurance, you may need to make a judgement call about whether you want that person to be in charge of your treatment or even if that salon is the place for you.

If you or someone you love has sustained injuries because of negligence that has happened at a beauty salon, or any other type of beauty establishment, our legal specialists can help to make sure you get the compensation you deserve from the business owner or the negligent professional
